The Atlantis Concept...

The “Northern Pillar of Hercules”
Rock of Gibraltar

Man-kind has long been fascinated with the possibility of the existence of Atlantis, a lost and advanced civilization which lived thousands of years before The Golden Age of Greece.  Some say it was perhaps as culturally and technically advanced as any this planet has ever seen, even beyond today’s standards in more ways than one.

The Greek philosopher Plato gets the credit for making the first reference to Atlantis in “Timaeus and Critias”, where he also discusses political theories and philosophy in about 360 BC. Scholars have since debated the actual existence of such a “lost civilization” and reflected and theorized as to where it may have been located.

Over 11,000 years ago, as the legend goes, there was an island nation in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean populated by a noble and powerful race. Most Atlantis experts believe the civilization thrived from about 60,000 to 11,000 BC. The inhabitants of the island had great wealth thanks to an abundance of natural resources as well as being a center for trade and commerce. Its influence reached beyond Western Europe, Northern Africa, as well as North and South America.

Plato’s description of Atlantis depicts a pleasant island, a place where nature generously provided all manner of vegetation and animal life for the people who called themselves Atlanteans. The climate was favorable enough for two crops every year and because of all these things, Atlanteans were never in want or need of anything.

He described Atlantis as being located in front of the Pillars of Heracles, in the ocean which he called “Atlantic.”
There are a number of theories about the final destruction of Atlantis, some invoking massive floods, earthquakes, wars and even earth-crust displacement. Plato spoke of earthquakes and floods and a sinking of the island below the waves in a single night and day.
Edgar Cayce (1877 to 1945), the famed American psychic who was well known for his positive position in regard to Atlantis, described a civilization that was destroyed by the excessive use of explosives. He also “saw” in one of his visions, that before  its final destruction occurred, the Atlantean island was split into five massive sections by several enormous earthquakes.

Cayce also predicted that evidence of the lost continent of Atlantis would appear in the Bahamas in 1968 or 1969. As if on cue, in 1968, airplane pilots photographed structures that looked like buildings, walls and roads under the waters off of Bimini island which is located a little more than 50 miles (81 km) due east of Miami, Florida in the Bahaman region of the Atlantic Ocean.

A little additional information documented by Cayce’s psychic readings: the Atlanteans achieved an amazing level of technology before the continent sank, around 10,000 B.C. He noted that they invented the laser, the aircraft, had television, “death rays”, and possessed atomic energy; in fact, Casey was sure that it was the misuse of powerful natural forces they had developed that caused their ultimate demise.

It is generally believed by those who support the Atlantis concept that Western European, Northern African and both of the American continents interacted with each other during the days of Atlantis. This was originally thought because Plato described Atlantis as being in the Atlantic Ocean “opposite the Pillars of Hercules” (Gibraltar ... a British territory) and as having a string of islands leading to the “opposite continent” (which could only be the American Continents), thus making such interaction likely.

You may recall from a previous post concerning the “8th Continent” that it has been determined that Africa and South America were actually once united as one land mass, but that was about 20 million years ago, Plato was describing an era that was only 9,000 years before his time (360 BC) so by that late date only a series of islands (other than Atlantis) remained between the island of Atlantis and South America. Similarities between Western European, South and Central American, and North African archeological finds have long been apparent and only reinforce this fact.

It was determined in 1998 that Native American DNA is characteristic of people of ancient south-west Europe.  Plus traces of cocaine and tobacco was discovered in an Egyptian mummy in 1992, both of which are native  American narcotics. Now add these two more recent discoveries to the above referenced archeological similarities, and suddenly rocket science is not a necessity to see that Plato was not just making a political point with his references to Atlantis as some historians have claimed.

  1. They have found what appears to be the ruins of a city approximately 2300 feet below the water surface off the coast of Cuba. Experts have said this could be Atlantis. There are other cities like that around the world. Two of the larger ones are located off the southern coast of Japan and off the western coast of India. It appears that the streets and walkways were carved out of solid rock. Artifacts found in the underwater city off the coast of India date back approximately 32,000 years, which is way before our history books say intelligent people should have been on the planet. Wonder how that could be possible? It seems that as time goes on, I find that everything I've learned from history books is wrong.

  2. Yep, I guess history changes right along with everything else.

As for the finds off the coasts of Japan and India, perhaps Plato was wrong about the scope of influence Atlantis projected ... may-be their influence was much greater than he was told.
